MEDICAL BILLING/CODING SPECIALIST DESCRIPTION: Medical billing company (radiology services) looking for an energetic, motivated individual to join our team. This position is new. Our intent is to bridge the gap between the coding department and the billing follow up personnel. Therefore, the layout of this position would be 30% actual procedure/diagnosis coding (interventional as well) and the other 70% would be devoted to appealing coding related denials, performing coding audits, following up on unpaid accounts that are held for coding review and resolving claim scrubber issues (fail out for LCD match, etc). Looking for someone who posses the ability to trouble shoot IT/system issues as they relate to the coding department. The right applicant may or may not be certified to code but they will be someone with at least 2 years medical billing experience and at least 1 year coding experience. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: - Manage accounts receivable in appeal status. - Manage accounts that have been pended for coding review. - Type or write appeals to be sent in response to denials received. - Possess ability to review coding as a whole and identify trends in rejects and denials. - Maximum of 2 hours continuous data entry performed on a daily basis. - Assign and/or review CPT and ICD-9 coding of dictated reports. - Manage reports that have missing information in an effort to gain reimbursement for clients. - trouble shoot Coding/IT related issues - analyze coding process/ production for process improvements - Assist in reconciling coded exams and charges for end of month processes. - Notify Privacy Officer of any breach in security or leak of PHI or ePHI. - Participate in all compliance and HIPAA training opportunities. - Maintain strictest confidentiality. Applicants should have in-depth knowledge of medical insurance billing processes, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize. Candidates with prior experience specific to radiology would be preferred.
